Dance Your Cares Away

Worries for Another day.
I'm a huge admirer of Jim Henson and everyone involved at the Creature Workshop. I think there was a true genuine drive behind delivering quality entertainment to kids that was educational and had a touch of magic to it. I think there's a need for a comeback, charming well thought out characters and one kick ass tune.

Tis Cold

I forgot to post when I woke up this morning. I had it done early even!

I've never seen Fraggle Rock, but I looked at the cast, and found this guy to be the coolest looking. It was cold out the day I was sketching so it ended up like this.

Him

Late again, sorry!

Still, better than nothing, right? Right?

Trinity

PowerPuff It up yo, and as a wee extra I did a similar thing to Tracy and rendered one of my own characters as they might exist in this universe!

Without Everything Nice

Good morning!

Just here to post a very Chris Battle style drawing. I always liked the way he drew the female form for the villians like Sedusa. I wasn't too big on the design of the perfect little girls themselves, but everyone else in the cast appealed to me.

Disgruntled Bear

We'll say this was done for this week's free theme, and you'll believe it, deal?

Birdy

Free Week # 2, for anyone who missed the last one, any entries this week are free to be whatever the artists chooses to show, if they choose to show anything. Normal themes resume next week. I didn't have anytime today as I was stuck at work and all the art I've done isn't stuff I can show, so here's a doodle of my superhero character- The Magpie!

Typical Monday

Posting early more or less cause of having to animate some scenes for the next two days. It's technically my days off, but I always ALWAYS spend my days off working.

My desk is flooded with paper and all the pages look slightly the same. Sometimes that does things to you. Especially when there is hundreds.

(this image is per request of a friend, cause we believe everybody in the animation department in our institution wants to flip tables, which is more truth than a belief)

Edit: Made her night with it. Awesome

Midna

I'm afraid I'm one of the few that never got into the Zelda games, not sure why, they've just never 'clicked' with me. That doesn't stop me appreciating the design that goes into the games, though!

Hero of Time

Finally, here we go. What you've all been waiting for. My drawings of people running around in colorful voids with texture overlays.
Sarcasm aside, I think it's safe to say that The Legend of Zelda may very well be my favorite game series. There's a lot I could say about Zelda, really. I was pretty much raised on Nintendo, and the Zelda games were like this glorious icon of my youth. When I was really young, I didn't really play them all that much. I usually just watched as my siblings played, and occasionally picked up the controller to explore the world. That's a lot of what sucked me in about the Zelda games--there was this great, big, beautiful world full of all these secrets and tricks. I think the Zelda series is definitely a huge inspiration and motivation for me as an artist.

Balance.

I almost forgot I needed to post this!
I spent alittle more time on my sketch this week as Zelda is as close to my heart as games can get, it means alot to me and I want to pay some kind of tribute to 25 years of Hyrule savin'.

Nintendo, I salute you!

Eco Friendly

I've only ever played one game of the Zelda series. That was "Majora's Mask". -And the bit that I played, I was a Deku. I thought the way to get platform to platform was amazing.

Though I'm pretty sure if I played any other game (or the rest of Majora), I'd find a lot of things amazing.

Xenia Onatopp

Xenia Onatopp is probably my favorite "Bond Girl". Cause she doesn't pretend she's not insane, unlike the others. Plus she killed with her legs. The downside to her was the mission in Goldeneye (n64) with the jungle. She always killed me.

Hello by the way! I'm here to stay and become regular on Mondays!

007 Muppet

I missed last weeks topic due to playing Sonic Generations, so why not kill two birds with one stone this time?

Half Hitman Half Monk

I'm posting early because I'll not be able to tomorrow. It's JAMES BOND week. Pew Pew.

Captain Abraham Smollett

I don't remember much about Muppet Treasure Island. I was six years old when I saw it, but I do remember one thing. I remember my reaction. And I think this about summarizes it:

Come Along, Pond

No. No, I didn't forget to update. That would be silly. Anyways! Here's some season 5 Doctor Who. The only season I've seen, really, and one of the most brilliant things I've ever watched. I love The Doctor and Amy's relationship. They understand each other and trust each other despite how little they know about each other. They make great friends and complement each other well.

Blue Box

Nothing exciting I'm afraid. In fact, I almost skipped this theme due to my lack of ideas (or rather thinking of something I actually wanted to paint). Eventually I decided to just paint the TARDIS floating through space, because giving myself 2 hours to produce something is a bit silly, but I never learn!

Ten past Eleven

What time is it?

Impossible crossover time. It has all gone a bit Timey-Wimey this week at SSS, expect sketches themed to the loveable Timelord and his many adventures throughout!

incredible Incredibles

I love the Incredibles. Love the story, the characters, the setting and the jokes. And when I grow up, I want to be just like Syndrome!

As in having my own island and all that of course.

I included the textures for anyone interested:

Wall-E

Woop! Decided to pay homage to a more recent Pixar film which really blew me away. The color and atmosphere of Wall-E is incredible. It has so much mood. I think my favorite part of the film is in the beginning, on Earth. I love the subtlety induced by the virtually nonexistent dialogue.

P.S.: Here is the reference I used.

Mike iPhone sketch

Unfortunately the colours didn't come out as well as they did on the iPhone screen. I tried correcting them in Photoshop, but it only did so much good.

What's this? Tuesday? Things must be going a bit wrong around here, what with Adam posting on Monday, and the guest artist posting today.. and now me! Well, with any luck I'll have another sketch up tomorrow night as well. There's just too many films/characters to choose from, I've gotta do more than one!

Tonight I decided to start with something simple, Mike Wazowski. Then I made it difficult for myself again by forcing myself to paint it on my iPhone using the Colors app.. It was actually quite relaxing, and helped me keep things loose. I'll definitely be doing more of these!

Yeehaw!

Tracy Deines chimes in with another guest entry!

Kitty!

PIXAR week, we'll be paying tribute to any of a vast cast of characters and collection of films from the inspirational home of 3D animation.

I'm updating on Monday as I may do another entry tomorrow should I find some time, if not then consider this my regular post! Monsters Inc is my choice and to be perfectly honest- I could have spent all day deciding what to choose.

Each and every one of Pixars films have influenced me in some way and I'd like to pay tribute to many more than just one.

You got something on your neck

I made a really quick sketch this week. Starting to like making low-poly one's more and more :)

Hacker

Welcome, to Jurassic Park! Spared no expense. Another Guest Artist Monday entry from Tracy Deines, capturing the moment when Lex 'Hacks' the locks on the doors to free Dr.Grant and friends from a pesky Raptor.

Hold onto your butts, it's going to be a big week.

Rolling around at the speed of sound

Aaawright, got some Sonic here for ya. Don't really know what else to say except...

Follow me, set me free, trust me and we will escape from the city! I'll make it through, prove it to you!

GOTTA SPEED, KEEED

Sonic Generations next month, WOOOO!

Just a quick one tonight! Still, better than no post at all, a.k.a last week, when I failed at posting pokemon related things :I

I'm Waaaiting

Sonic Week go!
And what's this? A SKETCH on the Super Sketch Blog?- why, that's unheard of isn't it? I've not had a great deal of time- so I've whipped up this doodle of the Blue Blur.

eevee

My favorite Pokemon of all time

EDIT: thought would be fun to show the (badly rushed) texture too. 128 x 128 pixels. I should have single out the eye to get more detail in there though :<

In the Forest

You know what you used to do when you got Pokemon Red and Blue and you were in the forest. You looked for a Pikachu. Because Pikachus were awesome. Always gotta find one. Maybe you'll get twelve or something. Just in case.

Better stock up on those double As...

It's Pokemon week!

I was ten years old when I first played Pokemon Red and instantly, something about the game sung to me. During the years that followed, many a sleepless night was spent staring into the endlessly dull mute-green screen of a generation one Gameboy, collecting and battling my new best friends.

breaking the system

I need sleep. And time. Preferably both in large quantities.

Since I currently lack time big (hah) time, I decided to cheat the system and use a model I was working on anyway as my sketch for today. I hope no one minds.

This is a model from a project (called Project Ferine) that I am doing with a friend. These textures are nowhere near done, but I wanted to show something fun. So here my Ferine WIP:

The Prophet and The Cartographer

Today, I sketched some minor characters from one of my comics, Bluff!
They are crew members on the starship, the Blue Star. Sonira is the captain, and Akira is the helmsman. They're refurbished characters from my youth. Normally, they're rendered in a much more cartoon-y style. I like to try a more realistic rendering of Bluff characters from time to time.

Garoto do Inferno

For the free week, I choose someting that I used to love to draw everywhere, Hellboy punching something, specially tables and walls :9

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

Crawl

The free week theme sounded like an awesome idea until I realized how bad I am at deciding what to draw/paint, hence the strange robot/creature thing above.

Still, it was an excuse to try out some different painting techniques, which was interesting.

Make It Rain.

We're having the week 'off' this week; Free Week. The shackles of themes have been temporally lifted to give the squad freedom to sketch and upload whatever they choose, if they choose to. I myself have been pretty short on time this week and thought I'd do a quick sketch of 'Rain' a side character in a short story I'll be finishing up by December.

Usual themes will be back starting with Pokemon next week.

Howl's Moving Castle

Been a while since I had the time to post anything here. I thought I'd do something fun this time. Made a low poly speed model of the awesome moving castle. (~2000 triangles)

I should texture this one sometime...

空とぶ宅急便 (Hareta Hi Ni)

Kiki's Delivery Service was my first Ghibli movie. I remember when I was a kid, and they showed it on TV. I used to watch it whenever it came on. It always drew me in. A movie about an ambitious little witch, full of magic without even a single spell.

Fireflies

Welp, another late night! Gonna be hanging in the morning.. The things I do for this blog...etc etc

Anyway! I'm pretty sure I remember My Neighbor Totoro being the first Ghibli film I saw as a kid. I had no idea what was going on, but it stuck with me for the rest of my life.

Tuesday, 6 September 2011

The Legend Of Mononoke

Princess Mononoke was my first Ghibli Movie and remains still as my favourite. At the time what I loved immediately was the similarities the film has to another favourite of mine; The Legend Of Zelda. Naturally then, I concluded on doing a cross over- Windwaker style Yakul and Ashitaka!

I had a hard time this week because honestly, there's so many options from all of these amazing films. I think we'll be revisiting this theme down the line.

Friday, 2 September 2011

I should go.

Whoops! I'm a bit late. However, it is still Friday! That counts for something, right? Anyways, here's my Shepard, Lilith! Paragon, friend of aliens, and lover of stores in the Citadel. Dodging death left and right, yet still keeping such nice hair. How does she do it? Maybe she's born with it.

Garrus

Technically it's just turned Wednesday here, so I'm gonna post this now before I change my mind. I was planning on doing something much more exciting than this, but a change of plans thwarted that idea. Nevermind.

If I've learnt one thing, it's that Garrus is a pain in the arse to draw!

Skylian Blitz This

I bought my Xbox 360 way back when for two reasons, one was Halo 3 and the other was a new Bioware game on the way called Mass Effect. I literally knew next to nothing about Mass Effect before I owned the game which is maybe why it quickly became one of my all time favorite games and why the conclusion to the trilogy is my most anticipated title in gaming history.

I didn't even know you could be a man or a woman, naturally I rolled FemShep to give myself a truly unique experience from the endless Duder-Space Marines out there. I've not been able to ever play anything but FemShep since, so for this week I've dooded Eden Shepard, my Shepard! I wanted to draw Garrus, maybe next time.
